Nintendo is suing the makers of R4

Nintendo is suing the makers of the popular flash cart device for the DS called the R4 Revolution. The R4 Revolution is a device that makes it possible to play homebrew .NDS roms and even play pirated .NDS roms of video games that are sold in stores. They filed this in the Tokyo Court system along with 54 other gaming companies. They filed it under Unfair Competition Prevention Law. They are asking for the cease of all sales of the device, marketing and importation of the device. Nintendo has said that this is a severe problem that can eventually hurt the gaming industry. The suit is only being filed in Japan. Some of the other companies that sued R4 is Arc System Works, SNK, Capcom, Koei, Jaleco, Square Enix, Sega, Taito, Takara Tomy, Tecmo, Hudson, Bandai Namco, The Pokemon Company, Yukes, and Level Five.

I wonder if America would follow suit.

Touch Screen Lawsuit on the way for Nintendo?

Could the touch screen marvel handheld system we all know and love, not be so fresh and innovative than we ever thought it was? Gamepolitics, just reported that, John R. Martin filed a lawsuit or a complain claiming that Nintendo stole his idea of using touch screen technology for the handheld system.

Could this be the original touch screen gaming before the Nintendo DS?

The main complaint comes from this description in the patent:

An electronic game device system [which] is switchable between an amusement mode and a gaming or gambling mode and is useful for vehicles such as airplanes or boats which move geographically from jurisdictions where gambling is legal to jurisdictions where it is not...

An improved method of operating a touch screen on a CRT or ICD computer screen uses finger release as input registering... Mounting arrangements for mounting computer screens or monitors are also disclosed...

I guess this relates to the Nintendo DS because of the gaming method of playing on the touch screen with multiple screens that responses with the stylus registration. I don't necessary see where Nintendo has stole this guy's idea, but if the court favors in his favor then Nintendo is going to have to pay a pretty big penny.

The PSP rules the Subways of New York City

MTV Multiplayer's Stephen Totilo took a poll in the past year of what was the most handheld systems on the subways of New York. And the results were shocking. He found that there was more Sony PSP players than Nintendo DS players. It was at a 3:2 ratio. He saw 67 PSP, 44 DS, and 6 GBA. He jokes and say he didn't see any Gizmondo's or Zodiac's. Those are handheld that were released a couple of years back and didn't really catch on, even though I really wanted a Gizmondo.

I thought this was very interesting because of the NPD numbers that show that many more people in America have more DS's that PSP. I think there are more PSP players on the subway because of the demographic that probably rides the subway. The people that rides the subway is probably are in there late teens and early to late twenties.

Club Nintendo Japan: Exclusive, Limited Edition Nintendo DS Lites

I wished Nintendo of America cared about their customers as much as Nintendo of Japan cared about theirs.

Club Nintendo, a JAPAN ONLY REWARD SERVICE FROM NINTENDO, is a system where gamers in Japan are allowed to redeem points they get from buying Nintendo products to use towards buying exclusive things only from Club Nintendo. They are also allowed to in the running to win exclusive contest with exclusive prizes.

Well Club Nintendo is now offering "Premium Nintendo DS lites" on the dates of July 1st to August 31st. There are only 3,000 of these DS's being offered. There are 1,000 Premium Silver, 1,000 Premium Rose, and 1,000 Premium Black. These DS are offered in their regular color Silver, Jet Black and Metallic. The things that make them special is a special metal coating on them. These DS will be offered to people who have brought at least two DS titles with the serial numbers at hand to receive a contest entry, there is a limit of five entries per person. Of all of the contest entries there will be 3,000 lucky winners.

Personally, I think that people being able to enter the contest are lucky, because at least they have a Club Nintendo, while we have, well.... NOTHING!!!!!

Has the Nintendo DS Peaked?

The Nintendo DS has been out for three years and many people around the world have been converted to enjoying the wonders of handheld gaming and causal gaming as well. Could this success with awesome sales for the Nintendo DS be over?

Well Japanese Analyst, Kiroshi Kamide from KBC Securities Japan thinks that the Nintendo DS has been the reason that the casual gaming has grown over the past three years. He thinks that the hardware sales for the Nintendo DS has peaked, worldwide. As a result, then that means software sales would fall, because causal gamers are happy with the games they have and see no reason to buy more.

Is this the end of the Nintendo DS domination as we know it? Probably not.

Could the iPhone murder the DS????

Apple will beat Nintendo and Nintendo will like it! LOL

Next week is Apple's Conference and it is obvious that Apple is going to release games for the iPhone because they said this earlier this year that they would be doing so, but that doesn't ask the interesting question, "Could the iPhone beat the DS?". The iPhone has a touch screen, great graphics processor, and it even has tilt technology.

Forbes wrote an article recently about this possiblity. They said that Apple could take part of the market away from the Nintendo DS.

In my opinion, its just like having cellphone games, or having the iPod games that no one buys. People buy Apple products for innovation in the way we view media, and people buy Nintendo products for the innovation in the way we play games and the games that come on their system. And if Apple wants to take over, they have to get pass the PSP and then try to go to the Nintendo DS next.
